What Does It Really Mean to Be Fearless?

Hey Sis,

What does it truly mean to be fearless?

When someone says, "She is fearless," what are they really seeing?

Are they looking at a woman who seems confident and put together?

Someone physically strong?

Someone who has accomplished great things?

Or perhaps she's standing in front of you looking like a complete hot mess—but somehow, you can see what she's becoming on the other side of everything she's been through.

We often call women fearless when we see the end result.

But we rarely see where she started.

We don't see the sleepless nights.

The uncertainty.

The tears.

The setbacks.

The bills that weren't paid.

The conversations she had with herself when every voice inside her was saying, "You're going to fail."

We see her standing on the mountain.

We don't see her climbing it.

And that's why I've been thinking differently about fear.

What Is Fear, Really?

Fear is a strong, unpleasant emotion caused by impending danger, pain, or a perceived threat—whether that threat is real or imagined.

But I believe much of the fear we experience isn't necessarily about danger.

It's about the unknown.

It's the uncertainty of the outcome.

It's not knowing whether we're going to succeed.

It's wondering:

What if I fail?

What if I make the wrong decision?

What if I lose everything?

What if I'm not good enough?

And sometimes, the possibility of failure is enough to keep us from ever taking the first step.

But here's what I've learned:

Fear doesn't always mean stop.

Sometimes it means this matters.

Fearless Starts With a Decision

I believe every fearless woman starts the same way.

With a decision.

Not necessarily a perfect plan.

Not every detail mapped out.

Not complete confidence.

Just a decision to move.

When we're pursuing something that truly matters to us, we don't always know exactly how we're going to get there.

We simply know we want to try.

So we put our energy into it.

We pray over it.

We work for it.

We lose sleep over it.

We negotiate with ourselves in our own minds.

We speak positive words over ourselves when everything inside us is screaming that we're going to fail.

And sometimes...

we do fail.

We experience setbacks.

We make mistakes.

We have moments when we question whether the dream was ever worth pursuing.

There are moments when you may even find yourself doing things you once swore you would never do simply because the pressure of the journey has pushed you beyond your comfort zone.

And that's where fear gets interesting.

Because you have a choice.

You can allow the fear to become your identity.

Or you can acknowledge it...

and keep moving.

You Don't Have to Defeat Fear Before You Move

I think we've misunderstood what it means to be fearless.

We imagine a fearless woman as someone who doesn't feel fear.

I don't believe that's true.

I believe you have to feel fear and learn how to move with it.

You don't have to wait until you're confident.

You don't have to wait until you're certain.

You don't have to wait until the fear disappears.

You can take the step while your hands are shaking.

You can make the decision while you're uncertain.

You can climb the mountain while wondering if you have what it takes to reach the top.

Because courage isn't the absence of fear.

Courage is deciding that fear doesn't get the final say.

Faith Has Been a Part of My Journey

For me, faith has been at the center of learning how to move through fear.

There have been moments when I didn't know how things would work out, but I had to remind myself of what I believed.

That God was for me.

That I didn't have to understand every step before taking the next one.

That the things placed on my heart weren't dependent on me having every answer.

Sometimes faith looks like praying.

Sometimes it looks like waiting.

And sometimes faith looks like putting one foot in front of the other when you are still afraid.

I've had moments where I had to remind myself:

If God is for me, who can stand against me?

Not because obstacles won't come.

They will.

Not because people won't disappoint you.

They will.

Not because you won't experience setbacks.

You will.

But because none of those things get to determine who you are.

Welcome Fear to the Table

So, Sis, if fear and doubt are sitting with you as you're making your next decision...

Invite them in.

Listen to what they're saying.

Ask yourself why they're there.

What are you afraid of losing?

What are you afraid will happen?

What are you afraid people will think?

What are you afraid you'll discover about yourself?

Fear can teach you something if you are willing to listen.

But listening doesn't mean obeying.

You can acknowledge fear without allowing it to lead.

Eventually, you'll begin to recognize the difference between:

"I'm afraid, so I shouldn't do this."

and

"I'm afraid because I've never done this before—and I'm going to do it anyway."

That distinction can change your life.

Becoming Fearless Is a Journey

Fearless isn't a destination.

It's a practice.

You can be fearless in your relationships.

Fearless in your wellness journey.

Fearless in your career.

Fearless in motherhood.

Fearless in starting the business.

Fearless in setting boundaries.

Fearless in finally becoming the woman you've been saying you want to become.

And then something new will come along...

and you'll have to practice it all over again.

That's life.

We will always encounter new mountains.

New challenges.

New uncertainties.

New opportunities to decide whether we're going to retreat or take another step.

Maybe that's the game we signed up for when we decided to truly live.

We're here to experience.

To grow.

To love.

To create.

To pursue the desires placed within our hearts.

And sometimes that requires walking through fire.

I'm Still Climbing

I've met some incredibly fearless women throughout my life.

Women who have inspired me by the way they continued moving forward when everything around them told them to stop.

And if I'm being completely honest...

I've only had glimpses of that woman in myself.

I'm still becoming her.

I'm still learning how to recognize fear without allowing it to control me.

I'm still climbing.

And I know another mountain is coming.

But this time, I won't mistake the mountain for a sign that I'm on the wrong path.

I'll recognize it for what it might be:

another opportunity to become fearless.

So, Sis...

If you're standing at the bottom of your mountain right now, you don't need to know how you're going to reach the top.

You don't need to have the entire journey figured out.

You don't even have to feel brave.

Just take the next step.

Big or small.

One step.

Then another.

And another.

Because maybe becoming fearless was never about eliminating fear.

Maybe it was always about discovering that you can feel fear and still move forward.

And perhaps that is where your freedom begins.

Keep climbing, Sis.

I'll see you at the top.

With love,

🤍 Coach Jacki
